On the first track 標準太太 (Good Housewife), 何超儀 (Josie) screams “想表態, 我想表態，新浴缸裡找新境界。” Which roughly translates to “I want to express myself, but am constraint in finding meaning in bathtubs.” This humorously depressing proclamation sums up the general message of this album –– A eulogy to every emotional ridden housewife out there.
Though it may be dubious whether any real housewives would take a special liking to the music contained here –– Filled with relentless hard rock riffs and infectious grooves, this is self referential music that can both serious and ridiculous. Surely it comes to no one’s surprise that this album is produced by well seasoned rocker 黃貫中 (Paul Wong); who brings a fire and passion to the music that is akin to his own solo work. Interesting enough though, the album also highlights a lighter side of Paul that we do not see as often.
地獄廚房 (Hell’s Kitchen), almost acts out as a concept album of sorts, with all the tracks referring in some way to the trial and tribulations of being a housewife. “人妻良母” (“Wife and Mom”) deals with the everyday dullness of getting married and bearing children, “小腿太肥” (“Thunder Thighs”) is a humorous take on the worries of getting out of shape. Almost all the tracks have a story to tell and really showcase the great lyrics that are contained here. What cannot go without mentioning though is how much Josie is able to bring these songs to life. Being a part time housewife herself, she brings a shot of reality and desperation to these set of tracks, and her experiences are further pulsated by her deep and raspy voice which fits the mood of the music perfectly.
With this album, Josie is ready to reclaim some much needed respect for housewives –– and it looks like she isn’t going on out without a fight.
