BRAIDS
Last year we hosted ‘Blue Hawaii’, Raphaelle Standell Preston’s electronic project with producer Alex ‘Agor’ Cowan. Her performance blew us away so we could not be more excited to welcome her back with her main band, the hugely acclaimed Braids!
Braids are a three piece experimental pop band formed when the members were just high school teens and part of the hugely influential Montreal electronic scene. Raphaelle was actually the flatmate of the older Claire Boucher (Grimes) and taught her how to loop! The bands consists of Raphaelle plus Austin Tufts and Taylor Smith. Their first two albums Native Speaker in 2011 and Flourish/Perish 2013 gained them rave reviews from The Guardian, Pitchfork, NME and the band went on to support Asobi Seksu, Toro y Moi, The Antlers, Wild Beasts, Girls and play world wide festivals – ATP, Electric Picnic, CMJ, South by Southwest.
With the release of their third album, Braids are absolutely killing it! The reviews are phenomenal from Rolling Stone, NME, Pitchfork, The Guardian with Drowned in Soundclaiming it as one of the finest records of the year so far. Their first single ‘Miniskirt’ is a powerful song with a strong message about rape culture. Braids have certainly established themselves as force to be reckoned with!
