[香港] SONGS FOR CHILDREN present YUCK LIVE IN HONG KONG
Press
‘Middle Sea’ is a stormer, with a distorted guitar line following Bloom’s vocals and a gorgeously simple chorus, and ‘Nothing New’ comes across all Phil Spector with its handclaps and heart-tugging chord changes. That’s one of a few tracks here to feature brass, an addition that gives the album’s anthemic title-track a definite Britpop kick.….As an all-out, unashamed guitar-pop album, though, this is a triumph.’’ Glow and Behold ‘Time Out’ 8/10
‘ But just four princely seconds of the opening Get Away will conjure up the gnarly energy and superfuzz bigmuff pedal fever of Dinosaur Jr’s Freak Scene. Six seconds of Operation will trigger moist memories of Sonic Youth’s Teenage Riot. This is not a bad thing, because Yuck appear to be the only band around reaching these neglected parts of the brain. How we have been starved.’ BBC
‘Yuck are worth hearing not so much because of who they sound like, but what they’ve done with those sounds: in this case, make a deeply melodic, casually thrilling coming-of-age album for a generation that never saw Nirvana’ Pitchfork 8.1/10
Bio
Yuck, a band of no fixed hairstyle from London, undoubtedly pulled off the best debut album of 2011; no mean feat for a bunch of kids who weren’t even 20. Although the band wear their hearts on their sleeve, Dinosaur Jr, Teenage Fanclub and Pixies (Yuck have supported all three!) and Sonic Youth are all there, what makes them stand out is their ability to wrap up all these influences into the freshest sounding pop/grunge/scuzz.
In true DIY style they self-produced and recorded their debut album at home, which was released in on Fat Possum Records to massive critical acclaim (Pitchfork 8.1, NME 8). The huge buzz and excitment caused by their debut album catapaulted Yuck to the international stage. They toured extensively including sold out headline shows at New York’s Music Hall of Williamsburg and London’s Electric Ballroom and festival spots at Glastonbury, Reading Leeds, Bestival and Primavera Sound. With a line up change which saw Max Bloom stepping up to lead vocals they recorded their second album ‘Glow and Behold’ which saw them grow into a more crafted ethereal dream pop.
Yuck’s last show in Hong Kong SOLD OUT very quickly so get your ticket quick for one of the most respected UK young indie bands!
Yuck will be supported by Hong Kong’s amazing new band THUD their first single already has a getting a cracking review from Drowned in Sound and a fab review in NME’s Radar
