[編輯的話] we’re the f***ing music farmers — 1月 Issue B

Rachel was gracious enough to offer me the spotlight on this issues editor’s note, so I leaped at the opportunity. I hope I don’t bore you guys with my dribble though.

This month’s theme explores beginnings and endings. We chose this specifically because of all this talk about the world ending on 12/21/2012. I can’t really say that I believe in apocalypse coming that soon, but I am not exactly optimistic either. Seeing incidents from the drying of the Aral Sea to the smoggy air we breathe in every day, the harm we have done to this planet is undeniable. Unless we humans start making some positive changes to the environment, we may indeed be leading to the doom of this planet and ultimately ourselves.

On the flip side of the coin, I want to talk about beginnings, and Bitetone’s beginnings specifically. I’ve had this persistent vision of seeing Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland indie music coming together and taken as a whole; So basically you would have music lovers from Taiwan not only listening to bands from Hong Kong and the Mainland but talk about them as well, and vice versa. Another thing with beginning Bitetone was to expose people to more music choices. I was sick to the bone of it being so difficult to find information on Chinese indie music. It’s freaking 2012 and we still have to go through endless clicking on Myspace and Douban to learn more about Chinese indie bands? Get outta here! I wanted to make it easier for people to learn about Chinese indie music, and eventually enjoy it (I hope). If not that, at least people will have made a conscious decision to listen to pop music instead (which is totally cool, if it’s conscious), and they won’t have an excuse when they say there is no resource out there to find information and recommendations on this kinda stuff.

Of course the path to seeing this happen will surely be long winded, and even if Bitetone doesn’t achieve its goal and ends up ending (Of course, we will make sure that doesn’t happen!), I hope it does its job to act as a foundation or beginning to my vision of seeing a diverse and harmonious scene for HK, TW and CN indie music.

In conclusion, yea, we’re f****ing indie music farmers and it’s sowing season baby!
